Alex Rodriguez: Scott Boras
built 187 days ago
Perhaps Alex Rodriguez's days in the Bronx aren't over after all. The New York Daily News reports that A-Rod and the Yankees have been discussing a deal over the past couple of days. The catch... is that Scott Boras isn't involved. "We will not negotiate with Scott Boras," a Yankees source said. "He cannot be in the room." Apparently, the Yankees are looking to sign the slugger to a below-market contract that would make up for the $21 million from the Rangers that was lost when A-Rod opted out of his contract.

After the debacle that was Alex Rodriguez's opt-out adventure this offseason, along with his eventual return to the Yankees, there was rampant speculation that Rodriguez and his agent Scott Boras had some tension in their relationship. It was confirmed during Sunday night's interview that A-Rod did for 60 Minutes:

Alex Rodriguez hired Guy Oseary, who has worked with Madonna and Lenny Kravitz, to be his manager. Oseary is not a registered baseball agent, and Scott Boras remains A-Rod's representative on baseball matters.

Alex Rodriguez is discussing a deal with the Yankees that would net him $275 million over 10 years, according to Newsday. There were reports that the Yankees would only meet with A-Rod if agent Scott Boras wasn't present, but the Players Union wouldn't allow that, and the Yanks have since stated they're willing to work with Boras. Initially, it appeared to be longshot that Rodriguez would return to the Yankees; now it's a longshot that he doesn't.

Mark Feinsand and Bill Madden, both of the New York Daily News, report the New York Yankees have re-opened contract talks with free agent 3B Alex Rodriguez, although the team does not want Rodriguez's agent Scott Boras involved. The team is ... willing to bring back Rodriguez on a below-market contract, one that would make up for the $21 million subsidy from the Texas Rangers that the team lost when Rodriguez opted out of his last contract. The team is expected to begin finalizing plans with Rodriguez after they are done with free agent CL Mariano Rivera. Rodriguez's new deal could come in the 10-year, $275-million range.

As the season progressed and the fans warmed to him as never before Rodriguez spoke of feeling more comfortable as a Yankee. But during the postseason the team fell once more in the first round, as Rodriguez returned to his cold October form. During Game 4 of the World Series his agent, Scott Boras, had announced that Rodriguez would not be exercising a three-year option with the Yankees, saying he would test the waters as a free agent. The team promptly responded that they had no interest in hiring a player that did not want to play for him.
