Alex Cejka: Pga Tour
built 606 days ago
On the European Tour this week, Alex Cejka ended seven winless years on the European Tour as he secured victory in the 33rd Trophee Lancome. The 31 year old German improves 43 positions to World No.67 in this week’s world ranking.

Cejka opened with a par on the 10th, bogeyed the par 5 11th before birdieing five of his next eight, eventually submitting a score of 3-under 68 after one more late bogey. After his round, he told PGA Tour Radio that he's finally adjusting to his new Callaway golf ball, which spins much more than his old Srixon model. Cejka has made two of four cuts in 2008 but just barely; one was an MDF at the Buick Invite. He finished 2007 with a flourish to retain his tour card but only worth a roster spot in the deepest of season-long leagues. Even then, there are rookies with higher ceilings.

Cejka has three wins on the European tour, all of them coming in 1995. His best finish since is a tie for second at the Malaysian Open in 1999, although he has been playing with confidence since his 13th place finish at last month's British Open at Royal Lytham & St. Annes.

On the European tour, Cejka won 11 tournaments, including the prestigious Volvo Masters. After qualifying for last year's P.G.A. Tour, he finished fourth in the P.G.A. Championship, second at the B.C. Open, and earned $1.1 million.

Cejka's website didn't have the Ginn as part of his schedule and it mentions that he is scheduled next to play at the Volvo Masters. He has been replaced in the field by Robert Damron, whose only check on the PGA Tour this year was from a T-34 at the Viking Classic.
