Alex Benjamin Barron (born September 28, 1982 in Orangeburg, South Carolina) is an American football right tackle currently playing for the St. Louis Rams of the National Football League. He was selected with the 19th overall pick of the 2005 NFL Draft out of Florida State University.

Barron is an unbelievable athlete and clearly the best tackle in the draft. At 6’7, 320 pounds, Barron is an imposing force who is equally adept at run and pass blocking. Some questioned his drive at times while at FSU, but more often than not, he was one of, if not the, most dominant player on the field. He did nothing to hurt his stock at his pro day, where he ran a 4.86 in the 40-yard dash and bench-pressed 395 pounds. The best example of Barron’s athleticism is the 38-inch vertical jump he recorded at the pro day.

Barron was an All-ACC left tackle at Florida State, and if he limits his false starts, should prove a capable replacement for Orlando Pace. Milford Brown has been inserted at right tackle with Claude Terrell at right guard.

The Rams began the game against the Browns with only one starter from opening day, tackle Alex Barron, in the lineup. Barron moved to left tackle after Orlando Pace was lost for the year with a shoulder injury in the opener.

Barron, 6-6, 316, is the premier offensive tackle among a weak crop of tackles in this year’s NFL draft. It’s a combination that should make Barron a top-five pick, but there’s speculation Barron may have fallen out of the top 10 due to his postseason unwillingness.

The easiest solution would be for Barron to have the breakout year all of Rams nation is hoping for. A set of bookend tackles would go a long way in determining the kind of year the Rams achieve. Determining what the future holds for a player as inconsistent as Barron, though, is about as easy as predicting the order that teams will finish in the NFC West.
