Last night Mexican ranchera legend Alejandro Fernandez serenaded what appeared to be the entire population of Puerto Vallarta in a free concert celebrating the 87th anniversary of Puerto Vallarta as a municipality and 37th as a city. At least 50,000 people turned out for the show on the Malecón. Alejandro, dressed in full charro regalia, was accompanied by four back up singers and a full mariachi band. He sang songs spanning his thirteen year career, including his latest album Corazón Abierto and ... songs by Juan Gabriel (who performed here in November 2004), and his father, Vincente Fernandez (who delighted audiences in February).
