It is advisable not to use salt substitutes or low-sodium milk products that contain potassium while taking Aldactone as these products could create high levels of potassium in blood. Talk to your doctor about taking any such salt substitutes. As compared to some other diuretics, Aldactone does not cause loss of potassium and so does not create a need for extra potassium intake, which could otherwise be harmful. Check with your doctor if you become sick and have severe or continuing nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea while under treatment with Aldactone. These may cause additional water loss which could in turn lead to loss of potassium or other harmful side effects.

Aldactone comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It usually is taken once a day in the morning with breakfast or twice a day with breakfast and lunch. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Aldactone exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Aldactone controls high blood pressure but does not cure it. Continue to take Aldactone even if you feel well.
