Generic Albuterol is an adrenergic agent used to treat Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It is ... used to treat conditions like preventing exercise-induced breathing problems. Generic Albuterol works at sites in the airways to relax the muscles and improve oxygen delivery.

Albuterol is the most commonly used β2-agonist currently used in the treatment of asthma and COPD. Until recently, it was only available as a racemate, a 50:50 mixture of the dextro ((S)-albuterol) and levo ((R)-albuterol) rotatory forms. Previously, it was felt that the (S)-albuterol enantiomer was minimally active (distomer) relative to the (R)-albuterol enantiomer (eutomer). It is expensive to separate the racemic mixture of albuterol into its' individual enantiomers. If the racemate bronchodilates with less cost, the distomer was viewed as incidental isomeric ballast or filler. The general consensus has been that there was no need or incentive to increase the expense of production in synthesizing (R)-albuterol as an individual drug if the racemate could serve the same function at double the dose with no adverse effects.

For years, Albuterol metered-dose inhalers (MDIs) have used chlorofluorcarbons (CFCs) to deliver medication. CFCs are known to damage the stratospheric ozone. In March of 2005, the FDA ruled that MDIs using CFCs must no longer be produced, marketed, or sold after 2008. CFCs will be replaced by hydrofloroalkane (HFA-134a). HFA is an inert gas and does not effect the environment.

Albuterol comes in a liquid solution form which is placed either on the nebulizer or the inhaler. When used to treat lung diseases, it is used at least every six hours; when used to improve breathing, it is used every 15 to 30 minutes. Consult your doctor for the exact dosage needed in your case based on your symptoms. He will know how the correct amount of Albuterol you should use every dosage time and how often you should use it. Do not change the dosage without the orders from your doctor. If Albuterol no longer controls your symptoms or if you feel that your symptoms worsen even after taking the drug, call your doctor immediately. If your symptoms got better before you even complete the prescription period, call your doctor and ask him whether you must discontinue using Albuterol or not.

Albuterol effect against asthma, which is a breathing problem involving widespread narrowing of the bronchial passages. Bronchial passages are the air ways that allow air to move in and out of the lungs. They can be restricted by mucus, by spasms in the surrounding muscles or by swelling of the passage lining. This narrowing leads to shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing and congestion.

Use of Albuterol is reported to the Medical Control Authority office by the service at the time of their monthly run sheet submittal by using the Special Study Reporting Form. The information collected for the services is included in the Special Study Summary Report required by MDCIS.
