Albinism: Skin
built 643 days ago
Albinism is a collection of conditions. Pigment is what gives your hair, eyes and skin their color. People with albinism have little or none of a pigment called melanin. This causes them to have very light skin and hair. They can have red eyes, but they usually have blue eyes. They can even have hazel or brown eyes.

Albinism is an autosomal recessive trait. It is not expressed as a trait unless both parents have the gene that the offspring will inherit. Albinism is caused by the inability of the body to produce melanin pigment and plays a role in the develop-ment of vision. Melanin pigment absorbs ultraviolet rays from the sun so the skin is not sun-damaged. There are different types of albinism, but they are sex-linked.

Albinism is a genetic condition which results in a lack of pigmentation in the eyes, skin and hair. It is an inherited condition caused by altered genes being passed on from an individual's parents. Various problems with vision and eyesight can result from the condition. This entry is intended only to cover human albinism, although many of the features mentioned would probably ... apply to albinism in animals.

Albinism is an inherited condition that is present at birth. It is characterized by a lack of melanin, the pigment that normally gives color to the skin, hair, and eyes. The condition, which is found in all races, may be accompanied by eye problems and may ultimately lead to skin cancer.
Albinism refers to a group of inherited conditions that affect about one person in 17,000. The bodies of people with albinism do not produce the usual amounts of a pigment known as malanin, regardless of their race or ethnicity. As a result, individuals with albinism have little or no pigment in their eyes, skin, or hair. For more information, check these sites.
