Those main characters are five guys in provincial Rimini named Moraldo (Franco Interlenghi), Alberto (Alberto Sordi), Fausto (Franco Fabrizi), Leopoldo (Leopoldo Trieste) and Riccardo (Riccardo Fellini). Directed and co-written by the incredibly talented 33-year-old filmmaker (and Riccardo's brother) Federico Fellini, the film shows us these five small-town Rimini wastrels with scathing irony as a bunch of often unemployed party animals, still living at home, who like to drink, carouse and chase women.

This dark comedy about a frantic arms merchant was a daring film for comedian Alberto Sordi to have made. Not only does he star in it, he ... wrote much of the screenplay and directed the film. Shuttling between African nations and Milan, he peddles arms to despots and the revolutionaries who oppose them.
