In addition to constant tensions with Serbia over the rights of Albanians in Kosovo, there has been a marked deterioration in relations between Albania and Greece during the last two years. An attack on an Albanian military post near the Greek border in April 1994 led to reciprocal accusations, diplomatic expulsions by both sides and increased tension along the common border. The conflict peaked in late August 1994 when five leaders of the Greek minority in Albania were tried and later convicted of espionage and illegal possession of weapons. Greece retaliated by expelling about 70,000 Albanians working in Greece and sealing its border with Albania.

Albania is a mediterranean country in southeastern Europe. It is bordered by Montenegro in the north, Serbia (Kosovo) in the north-east, the Republic of Macedonia in the east, and Greece in the south, has a coast on the Adriatic Sea in the west, and a coast on the Ionian Sea in the southwest. The country is an emerging democracy and is formally named the Republic of Albania (Albanian: Republika e Shqip�ris�).

Several official websites (Presidency of the Republic, Parliament, Ministry of Justice, etc.) shows the national emblem of Albania as a red shield with the black double-headed eagle surmonted by the Helmet of Skanderbeg, placed inside the shield. A photography of the real emblem, as used in the Parliament, confirms the drawings available on the official websites. The emblem was ... printed on the ballot boxes used for the elections in July 2005.monarchic period. The current seal is very close to the former Royal standard.

The cuisine of Albania, as with most Mediterranean and Balkan nations, is strongly influenced by its long history. Albania is situated on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea, with Montenegro and Serbia to the north, Macedonia to the east, and Greece to the south. Slightly larger than Maryland, Albania is composed of two major regions: a mountainous highland region (north, east, and south) constituting 70% of the land area, and a western coastal lowland region that contains nearly all of the country's agricultural land and is the most densely populated part of Albania.
