On April 5, 1976, Alaska Airlines Flight 60, a Boeing 727-81 (Registration N124AS) operating Juneau-Ketchikan overran the runway while landing in Ketchikan, Alaska after the Captain decided to attempt a go around at the last moment. One passenger died of a heart attack following the accident. The cause of the crash was determined to be pilot error for initiating a go-around after commitment to landing and the pilot's "unprofessional decision" to abandon the precision approach[4].

Alaska Airlines’ nonstop SEA–Honolulu service gets off the ground first, on October 12. The westbound flight departs Sea-Tac at 8:40am, and arrives Honolulu at 11:55am. The return trip leaves HNL at 1:25pm, and gets to the gate at Seattle-Tacoma at 10:10pm.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Oct. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alaska Airlines today announced it will expand its service to Hawaii, offering year-round Anchorage- Honolulu flights. The nonstop flights, which begin Dec. 9, will be offered daily through April 26, as previously announced, and twice weekly, on Fridays and Saturdays, between April 27 and Oct. 25.
