After nearly 30 years in show business, it's surprising to learn there's something Alan Rickman hasn't done: The movie musical. That is until now. Tim Burton enlisted the genre jumping actor to portray Judge Turpin in his new film Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. No stranger to villains, Rickman plays the man responsible for putting Sweeney behind bars for 15 years on a trumped up charge so he could steal his wife and daughter.

Rickman will play the lecherous Judge Turpin, who has Benjamin Barker (Depp) unjustly sent to prison and then preys on Barker's wife. Once released, Barker becomes Fleet Street barber Sweeney Todd and exacts revenge. With the help of his friend Mrs. Lovett (Bonham Carter), Todd kills various clients and then gives their remains to Mrs. Lovett who makes them into meat pies. "Borat" star Cohen plays Signor Adolfo Pirelli, a rival barber.

Apparently, Alan has joined the cast of Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd, which is based on the Broadway musical by Stephen Sondheim. Alan is to play Judge Turpin in the movie. The other cast members so far are Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen.
