Alan Gerry: Gerry Foundation
built 656 days ago
The alliance approved of the Gerry Foundation's initial proposal to build a performing arts center near the 37-acre property. (The site isn't listed on any local, state, or national historic registers). When the plan was first unveiled in 2001, it called for the construction of a pavilion on property adjacent to Yasgur's old field known as the Gabriel farm. But that attitude changed as the project grew.
According to Time Warner's March 20 proxy statement, Gerry personally controls 3.025 million shares, worth $258.7 million at last Thursday's $85.52 closing price. The Gerry Foundation has 2.2 million shares worth $188.1 million.
The man behind the project is Alan Gerry, a former cable television mogul and registered Republican. State government pitched in $15 million for the $100 million project, most of which was funded by Gerry himself through a foundation.

The money raised from "A Day in the Garden" will go to the Gerry Foundation, an organization dedicated to improving the economy in Sullivan County. In addition, the organizers have a long-range plan to hold other concerts at the site. "We are contemplating a bright and long future for this site, but we are squarely focused on the success of this event," Socolof said.
