Alan Beckwith bought 40 acres of mostly steep California hillside land in 1980 and has built a house and outbuilding in a valley on the edge of a creek. It's off the grid. He and his wife Marcie raise a great variety of food crops and have a contingent of animals, all nestled in a little creekside valley.

Alan grew up outside of Tyrone Pennsylvania, the home of 'Fred Waring'. Upon graduation from high school in 1969, was awarded a full scholarship from the U.S.A.F. (only 40 was awarded that year). He has an honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1971. And received a B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1972. After graduation Alan received his draft notice for Vietnam.
