Alamo The Alamo is an 18th-century mission church in San Antonio, Texas. It was originally built to be the church for the Mission San Antonio de Valero, which was founded in 1718. The church was built by Spanish Franciscan friars in order to convert the local Indians to Christianity.

Several of these other missions have been preserved as part of San Antonio Missions National Historical Park.[5]
On April 21, forty-six days after the fall of the Alamo, less than 800 angered Texans and American volunteers led by General Sam Houston launched a furious attack on the Mexican army of 1,500 at San Jacinto. Shouting "Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad!", they completely routed the Mexican army in a matter of minutes, killing six hundred and thirty while losing nine. Santa Anna was captured. Texas was free; a new republic was born.

Wheeler County Courthouse Alamo, the county seat of Wheeler County, was incorporated on August 16, 1909. The city is named for the mission that was the site of the famous battle in the Texas Revolution. Wheeler County became the 146th county created in Georgia and was created from Montgomery County. The county is named for renowned Commander of Tennessee's Confederate Army, Joseph Wheeler.
