There has been widespread fear and loathing of Al Jazeera often led by people who never watched it or couldn’t understand it if they could. A campaign of disinformation orchestrated by the Pentagon has sought to discredit the channel as "Terrorist TV."

Al Jazeera at the end of the day is an Arabic service. It caters to ARAB viewers, of course they would have to appeal to their ideals and report the type of things that they want to hear. But so does Fox News, who ... have a very defined audience. So does a lot of Israeli sources. So do the French news channels that I’ve seen which also have a specific audience amongst their own population - Muslims, Algerians, etc vs. the very conservative and nationalist French types.

In the gym at the NATO base in Kabul, U.S. soldiers hit the treadmills every morning and gaze at TV screens broadcasting Al Jazeera’s English news channel. America, and not just its front-line soldiers, needs to watch Al Jazeera to understand how the world has changed. Any other course amounts to self-destructive blindness.

Given its proclivity for tweaking official Arab noses, it's doubtful that Al-Jazeera is turning a profit. While the channel¹s owners would like to make money, they certainly realize advertising revenues will remain scarce as long as their mission is to swim against the tide.

It turns out that Jimmy Carter himself was recently a guest on the Riz Khan show on Al-Jazeera English, where he was praised by several callers. This is the spin-off of the terrorist TV channel.
