Tomorrow morning Al Franken will commence running television ads in the state. The ad buy is “significant” and will be running on the four major networks in the Cities, it’ll be on Duluth TV and on cable as well. It will run weekly through the caucuses and possibly past that.

Franken had just stepped into the crowd's line of sight. His head was overwhelmed by a fur hat, but everyone recognized him. Instantly he diverted a sizable portion of the attention away from the man who may be the next president of the United States. Tom Brokaw gave Franken a playful boxer's jab; Bob Shrum, Kerry's media adviser, cornered him for a quick chat. Local reporters shoved microphones in his face. Quintessential mom and grandma types wanted photos and autographs.

During a five-year absence from SNL, Franken and friend Tom Davis moved to Hollywood to try their luck as screenwriters. Several of their screenplays went unproduced, but "One More Saturday Night" made it to the big screen.
