On the face of it Akon (real name Aliaune Thiam) could be just another 50 Cent type, a kid who struggled, had run-in's with the law and ended up making music to get out of the ghetto. But there's cultural depth to the man that generates that little bit more interesting. Having spent his first seven years in Senegal before moving to America, and having a musical legend of a father (Jazz musician Mor Thiam) has certainly helped contribute to the originality on Trouble.

Son of a jazz artist, Aliaune (Akon's real name) grew up with musical roots. His debut album titled, 'Trouble' was released in June 2004. This showcased his silky, Senegalese style with a generous dose of American hip-hop and rap mixed in. He's probably best known for his hit song, 'Lonely' which reached #1 in eight different countries and #2 in four more!
