Akiko Fukushima became the 5th Japanese to clinch a U.S. LPGA tour game. It was on May 23 at the inaugural Philips Invitational in Onion Creek Country Club course. She was in the lead from the first day. On the final day, she scored 71. She won 120 thousand dollars. Fukushima joined the U.S.LPGA tour this season.

Trying to become the 10th Japanese player to win on the LPGA Tour and the first since Akiko Fukushima in 1999, Miyazato took a 2-up lead with a par on the par-4 11th. After Hjorth cut the lead in half with a birdie on the par-4 12th, Miyazato took the par-4 14th and par-5 16th with pars to close out the tall Swede.

Akiko began playing golf at the age of 10 and was a highly recognized amateur and professional in Japan before joining the LPGA Tour in 1999. She enjoys driving cars and playing the piano. She qualified for the LPGA Tour on her first attempt in 1998.
Akiko Fukushima moved into sole possession of the lead after the second round of the Belluna Ladies on Saturday, shooting a 6-under-par 66 at the Obatago Golf Club. She not only held onto the lead and won her first title of the year, but ... captured her 22nd overall title of her career Sunday after a 1-under-par 71 gave her a two-shot victory.
Akiko started to play golf when she was 10 years old. During the summer holiday in 1983, she was watching a baseball match for School boys on TV, she said to her father, who was a professional baseball player, "I will be a baseball player, too !! "and gave her a golf club instead.
In 2004 Fukushima retuned to Japan. Despite her injury in 2005, she has achieved two wins in 2006. Her powerful swing as well as extraordinary focus and precise course management continues to attract many golf fans and younger golf pros.
