Airwolf
built 178 days ago
The concept behind Airwolf was a super fast and armed helicopter that could "blend in" by appearing to be civilian and non-military in origin- A "wolf in sheep's clothing." Airwolf's insignia patch (... designed by Probert) as worn by the flight-crew was a snarling wolf's head with gossamer wings that appears to be wearing a sheepskin complete with the head of lamb over the wolf's forehead. Airwolf is sometimes referred to in-show as "The Lady" by Santini and Hawke.

If you missed this show when it was on TV, Airwolf is a prototype helicopter developed by “The Firm” for use in military situations. It’s got missiles, guns, flares, can do over MACH 1 and has some really cool flying abilities. Plus, it looks damn good. During a demonstration to a congressman, Airwolf is stolen by the test pilot and it’s services sold to some terrorists in the Middle East. Enter Stringfellow Hawke (Jan-Michael Vincent) as the moody ex-test pilot for The Firm, who is given the task of getting Airwolf back.

Airwolf stars Jan-Michael Vincent as Stringfellow Hawke, a reclusive helicopter pilot. Airwolf itself is a super-powered copter that has been stolen by its creator (David Hemmings) and sold to the Libyans. Hawke agrees to retrieve Airwolf on one condition: That the US government effect the release of his brother, who has been missing in Vietnam for fourteen years. Inasmuch as the government fails in their end of the bargain, Hawke keeps Airwolf himself, thereby establishing the premise for the subsequent long-running (1984-1988) TV series. This two-hour Airwolf opener originally aired on January 22, 1984. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Created and developed by Don Bellasario, with the earliest music being performed by Sylvester Levay, Airwolf's earlier seasons were dark, arc-driven, and quite reflective of the contemporary Cold War. The series ran for 55 episodes on CBS in the United States in 1984 through 1986, and an additional 24 episodes, with a new cast and production company, aired on the USA Network in 1987, for a total of 79 episodes. The first episode was a two-hour TV movie that was re-edited and released as a standalone direct-to-video film, marketed as 'Airwolf: The Movie'. The show was broadcast in several international markets.

Airwolf is rarely shown on TV channels today, although a syndication package does exist and occasionally appears as re-runs. In December 2006 and May 2007, the series was given "marathons" on the Sci Fi Channel, to promote the DVD releases of Seasons 2 and 3, respectively. The show began airing 7 days a week, on UK channel DMAX on January 8, 2008. [1] DMAX is only showing the original 3 CBS seasons.

Michael Coldsmith-Briggs III, codename "Archangel" (Alex Cord), the head of the division who built Airwolf, is badly wounded in the assault but not yet out of the game. Now wearing an eye-patch and walking with aid of a cane as a result of his injuries, he calls upon ace combat pilot Stringfellow Hawke (Jan-Michael Vincent) to take the task of bringing back Airwolf from Libya. Hawke is a cello-playing recluse, living in his scenaric cabin in the mountains – with a priceless art collection, and with only his dog Tet for company - ever since his brother Saint John went Missing In Action in the Vietnam War, never to be found.
