Airwolf: Series
built 263 days ago
This is the final release of the Airwolf mod for OFPR, the complete pack is a sort of goodbye from the team. Hopefully they will return for ArmA with it's better scripting system they could implement the Airwolf helicopter more effectively. However what they acheived with OFP's engine is remarkable. The Airwolf and Redwolf are both fun and challenging to fly, both are scripted with what they had in the TV series. The only flaw in this mod is that there are no missions for the addons. They have... included two great looking USA style islands with a resemblence to Arizona state.
Even though most people remember Knight Rider from the fad of the 80's to have vehicles as the stars of TV shows, Airwolf was a far superior product. Donald 'Quantum Leap' Belissario created this show about a high tech attack chopper, and oversaw its best years. Even though near the end Belissario left and the stories began to degrade, the earlier episodes are classic examples of good 80's TV, with good solid performances and breathtaking aerial sequences that put the Blue Thunder TV series to shame. A series that should be brought back.

The Airwolf helicopter at the heart of the series boasted some super specs for its time. According to the creators, the craft could achieve 300 knots per hour, a maximum speed of Mach 2, and a range of 1,450 miles for a crew of two people. It boasted a 0.50 BMG chain gun which could shoot as many as 40 rounds every second. Other missiles and shells included AIM-9 Sidewinder, AGM-45 Shrike, and FIM-43 Redeye missiles, and the fourth season even introduced lasers.

Airwolf always seems to come round again on TV, even if it's the rather poor final series when they "updated" the graphics on the show and effectively scrapped the original cast. On a vaguely serious note, I do wonder how kids of today would react to it - much of the cold war and Vietnam references would probably be very unfamiliar to them and so they might not "get" the scenario at all - but then, perhaps kids don't worry about that sort of thing! I've seen it most recently on the DVD as advertised above - not many extras, but it's great to be able to skip to the action sequences which despite the use of dodgy graphics (see below) are still nicely done with suitably rockin' music! Go on, you know you want it!

Airwolf itself was a highly modified Bell 222b, with a number of fibreglass and aluminium sections fitted to give it its unique look. In the TV series Airwolf may have been capable of supersonic speeds, but in reality, the numerous additions resulted in only slowing the helicopter\'s speeds! Sadly, the aircraft used for Airwolf crashed in Germany in 1991 (... most of the specially built modifications are still in existence in the depths of Universal Studios).
