Air France appointed its first flight attendants in 1946. The same year the airline opened its first air terminal at Les Invalides in central Paris. It was linked to Paris Le Bourget Airport, Air France's first operations and engineering base, by coach. At that time the network covered 160,000 km, claimed to be the longest in the world.[6]

Air France-KLM today announces it has reached an agreement on the terms to acquire VLM Airlines, a subsidiary of the Dutch company Panta Holdings B.V. VLM Airlines is one of Europe’s leading regional carriers catering principally for business travellers. The company operates a fleet of 18 Fokker 50 and one BAE 146 aircraft. London City Airport is the hub for the majority of its flights and therefore VLM Airlines will actively cooperate with the regional carrier CityJet, a 100% subsidiary of Air France, already operating out of London City Airport.

Air France-KLM ... holds a 2 percent stake in the Italian flag carrier Alitalia (November 2005). The Italian Government reduced its holding in the struggling airline from 62 percent to 49 percent after a share issue which effectively meant it had surrendered control. In December 2007 the board of Alitalia announce that its will is to merge Alitalia with Air France-KLM in order to avoid the bankruptcy of Alitalia. The Italian government headed by Romano Prodi declared that in the early months of 2008 the final stage of the negotiation will take place.

Air France has announced Mr. Jean-Claude Cros as the new Vice President and General Manager for Air France, USA. Mr. Cros is based in the airline's New York City headquarters and is the successor of Mr. Marie-Joseph Malé.
