For years, ex-Formula One race car engineer Guy Nègre has been developing and striving to market his Air Car concept. Now, it looks it may really happen. His France-based MDI (Moteur Developpment International) has recently signed an agreement with Tata Motors, India’s largest automobile company, to apply MDI’s compressed air engine technology in India. Starting here could provide needed momentum for other markets as well.

Caption: The first very cool picture shows the compressed air technology engine working underwater. As for the picture of the car, we know it's not very good looking, but we figure that right now they are more interested in getting the drivetrain to work; they'll probably create a nicer-looking exterior when the time comes to start selling it, or they'll just sell the engine technology directly to other carmakers.

Compressed air locomotive engines were used in the past, most recently in coal mines, where they were safer then electric due to absence of electric sparks. Nice site for the history (including compressed air bicycle):
