Adrien Brody photo Brody's climb to success has been a long one. The New York City native attended both the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the High School for the Performing Arts before starting an off-Broadway career. Brody had a big role in 1998's The Thin Red Line, but almost all of his scenes got cut. But just a year later he got his big break playing a punk in Spike Lee's Summer of Sam. For the next four years he bouned around doing roles in obscure indies and studio fare that never quite found an audience. But all that set the stage for the role of his lifetime: playing a piano player in Roman Polanski's Holocaust drama The Pianist, for which he won the Best Actor Oscar in 2003. Since his surprise Academy Award win, Brody's taken the occasional lead role (The Jacket) and done supporting work in blockbuster fare (King Kong, The Villlage).
