Adrian Fernandez finished 14th in his fourth Indianapolis 500 start this afternoon after mechanical gremlins hindered any chance of Fernandez reaching the top of the result sheets. Fernandez gained two positions at the start, but quickly dropped to 22nd position on his first pit stop after a broken rear air jack. Fernandez returned to the track only to endure an ill-handling car for the remainder of the race despite attempts to make adjustments in the pits. It was later discovered that the rear air jack was protruding from the car disturbing the rear. Additionally, the team ... found a problem with the undertray of the car after the race.

Adrian Fernandez began his career by racing motorcross at age eight. He entered his first auto race in 1981 at the "24 Hours of Mexico" and at the age of 15 he made the permanent move to cars in 1982. From 1982 to 1984 Fernandez competed in the Formula Vee Championship taking the title in '83 and '84. He ... raced in the Formula K Series in 1984, competing in that series through 1986. He finished in the top four in the standings all three years in Formula K.

Adrian Fernandez has been called the "Dale Earnhardt Jr." of Mexico, and that might be understating the fact. Mexican fans adore the NASCAR, IndyCar and sports-car driver, and Fernandez is a big hit when the NASCAR Nationwide Series competes in Mexico City. Adrian Fernandez will make his NASCAR debut in the Busch Series' first race in Mexico. Hendrick Motorsports announced Wednesday that Fernandez would be driving in the March 6 race at the Hermanos Rodriguez Autodrome in Mexico City.
