Adolph Hitler

One crucial aspect of the event which historians have overlooked is the fact that Adolph Hitler and Henry Tandy both fought at the Battle of Ypres in 1914, a far more significant event in the life of Hitler. He distinguished himself in combat several times and saved the life of a seriously wounded officer, his heroism resulted in him being promoted to Lance Corporal. The famous picture by Matania depicting Tandy carrying a wounded comrade to the first aid station at the Menin Cross Roads was painted based on that battle not Marcoing. It's possible that places got mixed up, it may well have been Ypres not Marcoing where Hitler and Tandey crossed paths and parted on amicable terms. Tandey told a journalist that during the Great War he had as a rule spared wounded and disarmed German soldiers, so Marcoing wasn't the first or last time he performed a humane deed in inhumane circumstances. The fact he was awarded the illustrious VC for heroic deeds at Marcoing may have affected Prime Minister Chamberlains recollections of Hitler's war story, which may have included Tandey's having won the VC at Marcoing, a fact which would have undoubtedly impressed Hitler.

In his youth, Adolph Hitler joined in the animated, cosmopolitan life of Vienna. His initial ambition was to be an artist; it was never to be realized. When WWI broke out he left Vienna for Munich and in 1914 enlisted in the Bavarian Army’s 16th Regiment. He was awarded the Iron Cross, First Class, for his bravery and discovered the attraction of military grandeur, values and comradeship. His dreams shattered by Germany’s defeat he grew convinced that Jews and Marxists had played a part in the catastrophe.

In an interview with the ex-Chancellor of Germany, Adolph Hitler told Unquietmind that he "fully supports" online bookstore Amazon's above-and-beyond cooperation with German censorship laws that ban Mein Kampf. His autobiography and political manifesto was dictated to fellow Nazi Rudolph Hess while they shared a prison cell between 1923 and 1924. The German-language edition, along with all hate literature, is banned in Germany, but a recent Amazon ban on shipping Mein Kampf to Germany involves English-language editions.

Dateline: Toronto -- The Canadian War Museum has decided not to sell Adolph Hitler's limousine. The museum had voiced interest in selling the car at auction to raise funds for a new war museum. Public opinion to selling the black Mercedes-Benz was strongly in the negative... and the museum's director expressed reservations about letting the vehicle into the public sector where it might become an icon for neo-Nazi groups. According to the Ottawa Citizen, Ralph Engelstad, owner of the 2,700-room Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, had expressed interest in the car. Engelstad -- who was fined $1.5 million by the Nevada Gaming Commission in 1988 for holding a Nazi theme party -- currently owns a six-wheeled Nazi staff car and a Mercedes-Benz once owned by Gestapo chief Heinrich Himmler.
