Adolf Hitler: Life
built 177 days ago
If Adolf Hitler's political and social policies were a product of atheism and secularism, why did he consistently say that religious faith was necessary for morality? Why did Hitler insist that faith is one of the most important things in life? Adolf Hitler's own words make it clear that he was convinced of the importance and necessity of religious faith - not at all unlike the conviction of conservative Christians today.

During this period, Hitler lived mainly from royalties for his book and fees for newspaper articles. He was able to afford an apartment in Munich, a villa in the Alps, and a car, but his style of life remained modest. He had a craving for pastries, movies, and Richard Wagner's music. His behavior still alternated between outbursts of energy and periods of inactivity and laziness. His sex life seems to have been abnormal. In 1928 he began a passionate affair with his niece Geli Raubal.

One of the foundations of Hitler's and the NSDAP's social policies was the concept of racial hygiene. It was based on the ideas of Arthur de Gobineau, eugenics, and social Darwinism. Applied to human beings, "survival of the fittest" was interpreted as requiring racial purity and killing off "life unworthy of life." The first victims were crippled and retarded children in a program dubbed Action T4.[32] After a public outcry, Hitler made a show of ending this program, but the killings in fact continued.

Hitler's emphasis on the family is ... very notable. He was truly an admirer of good, solid family life (like Jesus), and he may have taken a particular interest in families because he did not have one. Hitler only had his dull incestuous relationship with his sister. Perhaps his lack of family life made him that much more effectual in his pro-family policies, as he enjoyed, more than most anything else, the accompaniment of his friends' children (in a very creepy way in fact) and their relatives. Hitler visited the families of the Wagners, Göbbels’, and Bormanns quite regularly, and he always relished in their company because they were afraid of him and always made him cookies.

After the war Hitler did not return to civilian life. Though officially demobilized, he remained in the service of the Reichswehr. His work was in the political intelligence division. In those days the Reichswehr had already begun to dream of revenge. In addition to the illegal groups maintained inside the Reichswehr conspiring for the overthrow of the German Republic and planning for a military resurgence of the country, many officers and former officers attached themselves to various conspiratory "free corps" organizations formed for political purposes and the spreading of terrorism.

Hitler ... had a sincere belief that marriage was not to be taken lightly, and he sometimes expressed why he could not marry. He did not choose not to marry out of selfishness, but rather, impotence. It might also be important to note that Eva Braun chose to be with Hitler, knowing full well that he could not marry her or give her the married life she so rightly deserved. She did not care and chose to be with him regardless, and she also chose—completely of her own accord and will—to die with him. Many historians paint a morbid picture of a stormy relationship between the two; one in which Hitler mistreated Eva and called her "simple" and "stupid." Actually, Hitler called Eva on the phone every day while he was away, and his vacation time spent with her has been extensively documented by several of his adjutants, especially Hans Baur (his pilot, fellow drinking buddy, and wingman[9]).
