Situated in the middle of the Çukurova Plain (Cilician Plain), Adana is the fourth largest city of Türkiye, nestled in the most fertile agricultural area of the whole country which is fed by the lifegiving waters of River Seyhan. The city's name originates in mythology, where it was said to have been founded by Adanus, the son of Kronus (God of Weather). Due to its being in the heart of that fertile center Adana has been an important city for many civilizations for centuries dating back to the Hittites. The precious River Seyhan is spanned by the ancient Taşköprü (Stone Bridge) which was built by Hadrian and then repaired by Justinian. It is worth noting that to built a 300 yards long stone bridge in Roman times was a real feat. In the city, the 16th century Great Mosque (Ulu Camisi), the Yağ or Eski Mosque, the Hasan Aga Mosque, Saat Kulesi (the clock-tower) built in 1882, an old covered bazaar, Bedesten or Arasta are of interest.

Since the industry and commerce are the complement activity branches, Adana has shown a parallel development with commerce and industry. Being on the fundamental commerce roads that connect the west to the east, Adana has been an important commerce center for ages. The industrial production activities are realized upon the agricultural activities mostly on cotton.Naturally, the commerce is consisted of this sector .Except from the cotton production in the production industry in Adana the activities in food, ready made dresses,chemistry, forestry products started in the years 1970. In the years 1980 a great variety of production was achieved, the areas where citrus fruit is grown widened and the building greenhouses had started to be widespread. Today, the production is in the quality that the foreign market desire.Nowadays there is Galleria that has 624 stores, an entertaining center, a cinema and a car park. Migros supermarket branches in different parts of the city, the shopping centers like Real, Carrefour-Sa, Groseri and Metro have brought a boom to the commerce.

During the past five years, the Adana-Seyhan Rotary Club, with leadership from Mr. Abdullah Paksoy, has developed a functioning education center in Misis, Turkey for teaching about solar cookers and for housing inventory and equipment. About 3,000 CooKits have been manufactured in Adana, and over half have been distributed. Mr. Paksoy admits that teaching women to adopt changes in their long-established, traditional cooking habits is a very slow process. Firewood shortages and rising gas prices play an increasingly important role in this transition. Mr. Paksoy’s team has ... begun to spread solar cooking to Armenia.
