Adam Sandler is the stand-up comedian whose success on TV's Saturday Night Live (1991-95) launched his hugely successful career in slapstick movie comedies. A quirky jokester of the love-him-or-hate-him variety, Sandler played lovable lowbrow goofs in films including Happy Gilmore (1996, with Bob Barker), The Waterboy (1998) and The Wedding Singer (1998, with Drew Barrymore). In later years Sandler showed his dramatic talents in such films as Punch-Drunk Love (2002), Spanglish (2004, with Téa Leoni), and the 2005 remake of The Longest Yard (with Sandler as an imprisoned pro quarterback, the role originally played by Burt Reynolds). He has ... produced movies, including the animated holiday feature Eight Crazy Nights (2002). Sandler is also known for his comic novelty songs, in particular "The Chanukah Song" and "The Thanksgiving Song." Sandler has released several comedy albums, including They're All Gonna Laugh At You (1993) and Stan and Judy's Kid (1999). His other films include Billy Madison (1995), Big Daddy (1999, with Dylan and Cole Sprouse), Click (2006, with Kate Beckinsale), the 9/11 drama Reign Over Me (2007, with Don Cheadle), and the pretending-to-be-gay comedy I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (2007, with Jessica Biel.

Adam Sandler Adam Sandler first performed comedy on a stage at the age of 17, on open-mike night at a Boston club. Later, while he was a freshman at New York University, he landed a recurring role as Theo's dim friend Smitty on The Cosby Show. He was a writer and performer on MTV's TV trivia show Remote Control, and made his movie debut in 1989, in an abysmal comedy called Babes Ahoy, starring Burt Young and Billy Zane. The movie was so bad it wasn't released, even on video, until several years later (re-titled Going Overboard), when Sandler's name made it marketable. After Babes Ahoy, Sandler became a semi-successful stand-up comedian in the Los Angeles area. When Dennis Miller caught Sandler's act, he recommended Sandler to Saturday Night Live's Lorne Michaels.
