Acura: Acura Tl

Here in Chicago this morning, Acura unveiled the redesigned 2009 edition of its flagship RL sport sedan. One of the main criticisms of the current RL has been the anonymous face and rather bland overall styling. For '09, Acura has re-skinned the RL in an attempt to give it a more aggressive look with crisper contour lines and a much more prominent grille. According to Honda Sales EVP Dick Colliver, the face being shown on this car will spread to the rest of the lineup as the TL and TSX sedans are redesigned later this year. In spite of the sharpened focus, the overall profile of the exterior remains largely the same as the current model, which is not a bad thing. The handsome and functional interior is pretty much carried over, as well.

TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The all-new Acura TL performance luxury sedan, featuring updated styling, more horsepower and segment-leading electronic equipment, will be priced at $32,650 when it goes on sale October 6th at Acura dealers nationwide. While TL prices reflect a 9.5 percent increase, or $2,877, compared to last year based on a sales-weighted average, the 2004 model features a long list of enhancements, new features and industry firsts marking a dramatic improvement compared to the previous 3.2 TL and the high performance TL Type-S.

A new TL debuted in 2004, equipped with sharp, Italianate styling and a 270-hp V6, and available with a 6-speed manual transmission led to a dramatic increase in sales for Acura. The same year, Acura introduced the TSX, a European-market Honda Accord loaded with features, as a cheaper alternative to the BMW 3 Series. This model became the only 4-cylinder sedan in Acura's line-up, replacing the Integra sedan. A new RL debuted in 2005, this time with a 300-hp V6, more exciting styling, and innovative Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD), a system capable of sending almost all of the RL's power to just one wheel in a turn.

Honda Motor Co. has issued two separate recalls for its Acura TL sedan. The recalls stem from a problem with the windshield wiper motor and a faulty power steering hose – which due to high temps can melt and leak power steering fluid, which can leak onto the catalytic converter and cause a fire.
