Abercrombie & Fitch looks to be in the wrong line of business right now. True they have middle-range apparel stores, but they are most commonly associated as Abercrombie or Abercrombie & Fitch which will be higher end apparel stores and higher end apparel looks TERRIBLE. The credit crunch and economy are causing people to move toward lower to middle range apparel and its being reflected in their same store sales figures which showed a 4% decline in September. Take a look at Coach which reported a dreadful quarter today. ANF is simply battling a losing battle here and those $6 EPS estimates for 2008 will be looking more like $4 by the time Mar 08 rolls around. Apparel is not the place to be right now.

In 1969, following graduation, Abercrombie decided to head South in hopes of breaking into the New York music scene. In the next few years he developed into one of New York's most in-demand session musicians. He did record dates with Gil Evans, Gato Barbieri, Barry Miles and many other artists, and ... became a regular with Chico Hamilton's group. It was as the guitarist in Billy Cobham's band that Abercrombie first began attracting widespread attention among the general public. This ensemble was something of a Dreams reunion since it also included the Brecker Brothers. Abercrombie is heard on Cobham's "Crosswinds", "Total eclipse" and "Shabazz" album.

When she was 26 years old, Abercrombie was selected for employment by the Works Progress Administration (WPA), a federal relief program for struggling artists. By the time she was hired by the WPA in 1934, Abercrombie had already established her name in the Chicago art community. Still, she credits her appointment to the WPA with giving her the validation and income she needed to become a professional artist and gain independence from her parents, who were conservative Christian Scientists. Her commission with the Public Works of Art Project gave her a monthly salary of $94. With her new income, Abercrombie moved out of her parents' home and into her first apartment.

The Abercrombie & Fitch brand has been around since the late 1800s. Traditionally, Abercrombie & Fitch stores were laid out as "chain stores" designed to recall images of hunting and Northeastern preppiness.
