The American Bar Association Section of Taxation and the Virginia Tax Review designed this 100-page tax citation manual which lists the proper abbreviation and citation format for almost all tax-related documents. For those writing on taxation, this tool will come in handy since tax documents are not handled comprehensively by The Bluebook.

Abeta42 is the abbreviation for Beta-amyloid peptide consisting of 42 amino acids. Abeta42 is the primary constituent of the senile plaques that accumulate in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease. It is thought to be the key initiator of Alzheimer's disease since this peptide has the greatest tendency to aggregate, cause neuronal damage and initiate amyloid deposits in the brain. Most genetic mutations that cause early-onset Alzheimer's disease appear to do so by increasing production of Abeta42. These findings have led to intense research efforts to develop drugs that inhibit production of Abeta42. The investigational drug MPC-7869 has been shown to be effective in lowering levels of Abeta42 in cellular assays and animal models.

The term "nonrev" is an abbreviation for non-revenue. It refers to those passengers on a commercial airline that are not producing revenue for the airline during their travel. Most of the nonrev passengers on a plane are employees of the airline. They are given free or reduced rate travel as one of the benefits of their employment. Their family members, travel agents and affiliate company employees ... share these benefits. It is usually on a standby basis and is also referred to as "interline" travel.

Perhaps you'll want to review this oft-forgotten and misplaced rule: The first mention of an abbreviation or acronym should be spelled out. Exception: USA, AFL-CIO, NASA, and similar familiar acronyms. The abbreviation should be enclosed in parentheses after the fully spelled name: General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). Use the abbreviation throughout the rest of the story.

External text files should contain abbreviation definitions in the same reference format as described above; one definition per line. Any lines not matching the definitions syntax are ignored. In fact, any markdown document containing abbreviation references could easily serve as an external source file. See an example (raw).

You can tell the difference between an author abbreviation and a title abbreviation by noting the style of type used for each. Author abbreviations appear in plain type (e.g., Aesch. = Aeschylus), whereas title abbreviations appear in italic or underlined type (Ag. or Ag. = Agammemnon).
