Fike heroin Aaron Fike, shown at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla., Feb. 16, 2007, is hoping to be reinstated by NASCAR after he was arrested while shooting up heroin in an amusement park parking lot last summer. Fike told a judge he'd be dead if not for the arrest and promised to create an anti-drug program and to speak and pass out literature at schools, racetracks and other places in return for no jail time.

The “off-season” didn’t last long for Aaron Fike after he was tabbed to pilot the No. 1 Toyota. In just the last month, Fike has participated in several media events, including the National Motorsports Press Association luncheon, the Craftsman breakfast, and a Toyota Motorsports media dinner, which all took place during the Media Tour in and around Charlotte, N.C.

Aaron Fike began 2006 with driving the #43 Curb but eventually moved onto a contract with Kevin Harwick Incorporated for a limited schedule. After just two races, Fike was again released from the contract. After this he drove for Red Horse Racing in the Craftsman Truck series in 2007 and in this he managed four top ten finishes. However Fike became entangled in a drug scandal soon after and was subsequently suspended by NASCAR and released by Red Horse Racing from their contract.
Red Horse Racing announced in January that Aaron Fike was selected to drive the No. 1 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Fike, who is a native of Galesburg, Ill., is no stranger to driving fast. The twenty-four-year-old is one of the latest driving talents to come out of the United States Auto Club (USAC) ranks. He joins a long list of talented drivers coming to NASCAR from open-wheel, including NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Champions Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon.

Saturday’s O’Reilly 200 will mark Aaron Fike’s first career NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start at Memphis Motorsports Park. Fike does... have two NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) starts at the ¾-mile short track. Fike started 29th and finished 35th after electrical problems sent him behind the wall in the Sam’s Town 250 in 2004. In 2005 Fike had a solid run going after qualifying 5th but he was caught up in someone else’s mess which resulted in a 35th place finish. In addition to his two NBS starts at Memphis, Fike competed in a USAC Silver Crown Series race at Memphis Motorsports Park in 2004, finishing 9th.
