Although it may appear, from the face-on view photo, that Aaron Baddeley is swinging his arms and the golf club straight down-the-line towards the target - it's actually an optical illusion. The golf club is swung along an arc that is in-to-in, and the clubface is only square to the ball for a few inches along the bottom of the swingarc. When using a driver, a good golfer will try and create a shallow U-shaped arc at the bottom of the swing, so that the clubhead can travel in as straight a line as possible, for as long as possible. Note, in the face-on view photo, that Aaron Baddeley's clubface is nearly square to the ball a few inches before impact, and that it still appears to be square to the swingarc about 12" after impact. How long, and for what distance, does the clubface need to remain square to the ball-target line through the peri-impact zone to ensure that the clubface is square to the ball at the exact moment of impact? The answer depends on clubhead speed.
From 2005 onwards Aaron Baddeley seemed to regain his form. That year he bettered his rankings to the 78th position and next year in 2006 he won his first PGA Tour title at the Verizon Heritage. Baddeley won the PGA Tournament for the second time in early 2007 and found a place in the to fifty world rankings. He was the leader after the third round of the 107th U.S Open at Oakmont Country Club on June 116th 2007 with a two over par score of 212. Baddeley finished with an 80 and ended T-13. By September this year, he ranked among the top 20 professional golfers in the world.
Aaron Baddeley believes he's going to have to go low to have any chance of becoming the first player in 21 years to repeat as champion of the FBR Open. Last year, Baddeley shot back-to-back rounds of 64 on the weekend to edge John Rollins by a single stroke. The 26-year-old Australian said history has shown that it will probably take a similar performance for him to become the first player to defend his title at TPC Scottsdale since Johnny Miller in 1974-75.
