Aardvark means "Earth pig" in Afrikaans, a language of South Africa. The aardvark is a solitary, shy, nocturnal animal. Aardvarks live in African savannas, open grasslands, woodlands, and scrub. They range from southern Egypt to the Cape of Good Hope in the far south of Africa. Aardvarks live about 10 years in captivity; their life span in the wild is unknown.

The Aardvark is vaguely pig-like. Its body is stout with an arched back and is sparsely covered with coarse hairs. The limbs are of moderate length. The front feet have lost the pollex (or 'thumb') — resulting in four toes — but the rear feet have all five toes. Each toe bears a large, robust nail which is somewhat flattened and shovel-like, and appears to be intermediate between a claw and a hoof. The ears are disproportionately long, and the tail is very thick at the base and gradually tapers.

Aardvark inspects attics to ensure that they are properly vented. This pictures shows a dryer vent going into the attic and not through the roof line. This condition will cause wet moist air to be trapped in the attic area and may lead to mold and wood rot. Bathroom vents should ... be vented through the roof line because wet, moist air from showers can also be trapped in the attic leading to mold and wood rot.
