Aamir Khan eloped and married a Hindu girl, Reena, at the age of 21 because the families would not agree to the marriage. He divorced her in December 2002. His two children, son, Junaid, and daughter, Ira, are with his ex-wife, Reena. He had another child, a son, with his ex-girlfriend, English writer, Jessica Hines, on September 14, 2003. He is now paired with the media girl, Kiran Rao.

He may play a boorish chauvinist in Raja Hindustani or a selfish husband in Akele Hum Akele Tum but the audience knows that at heart, Aamir is the decent boy next door. "What works for him is his tremendous charm," says critic Maithli Rao. "But he still lacks a range of role-playing." Mansoor, who created the golden boy image for Aamir, says he must now break it. "He needs to be more experimental with his scripts." Perhaps the breakthrough film will be 1947 in which Aamir plays the unsavoury Ice Candy Man.
