Aaliyah was a GREAT and BEAUTIFUL person...her death was a tragic loss to many people around the world. NOt only her family but her millions of fans...she acheived things people can't do in a lifetime and she left a mark on many people's hearts that will last a lifetime.

Aaliyah stepped on the scene as a 14-year-old ingenue and then found herself knee-deep in controversy. Not only did she rise above the situation and soon charted her biggest hits and made a dazzling film debut. Though her death may have cut short her rise to stardom, Aaliyah's impact will not be forgotten. Her uncle, Barry Hankerson, released this statement at www.aaliyah2001.com: "The example she showed young people will be sorely missed and we hope her short time on earth will be an inspiration to young people all over the world."

Aaliyah's parents have reached an undisclosed settlement in a negligence lawsuit over her death in a 2001 plane crash - They sued plane operator Blackhawk International Airways Corp., owners Skystream Inc., Gilbert Chacon, and flight broker Atlantic Flight Group. Blackhawk did not have permission from the Bahamas for commercial flights.
