A Chorus Line: Dancers
built 191 days ago
A Chorus Line has long been one of those musicals that must fire on all cylinders to succeed. Done poorly, it is more painful than a root canal without novocaine. Done well, it is a mesmerizing personal account of life behind the stage lights and perceived glamour of Broadway. Every cast has it cadre of characters, each with their own unique and often overly dramatic backstory. As with any good theatre experience, the audience makes a deep connection with these characters. The longevity of A Chorus Line speaks to the well-crafted storylines each of these dancers brings forth—a rotating spotlight of triumph and tragedy.

A Chorus Line is about dancers, so singing ability will usually be less important in auditions than dancing. If you listen to the original cast recording, you will notice that the voices are not very polished - a little edgy, and that is the way most shows will be cast.
SHEILA: "Well let's face it. My family scene was not good." A Chorus Line ... revolutionized the ways musicals could be presented, not only stylistically but technically as well. The show broke out of the usual rigid story line and wove together the stories of its ensemble cast of "gypsy" dancers with show-stopping choreography, and a musical score ranging from sensational solos to a glittering, golden finale that brought audiences to their feet night after night with cheering ovations. The original production was also the first show on Broadway to use computers in the control booth, as well as the first to provide a sign-interpreted performance.
A new dancer steps up to the line today when Kevin Worley takes over the role of Al in the Broadway revival of A Chorus Line. Kevin Worley will don the famous TKTS t-shirt, formerly worn by Tony Yazbeck.
