After six terms in Congress, Peter Deutsch, 50, is no stranger to the national stage. This year... Deutsch gained fame in an entirely new area when he helped found the Ben Gamla Charter School in South Florida, the nation's first publicly funded Hebrew-language school. Deutsch, an observant Jew and lifelong Democrat, came to the project after losing a pitched battle for one of Florida's senatorial seats in 2004. The idea of a Jewish-themed charter school, with kosher food and Hebrew lessons, had been floated before in various parts of the country, but it took someone with Deutsch's prominence and connections to make it happen. A number of detractors, most of them Jewish, have questioned whether the school violates constitutional church-state lines ― and the traditional American Jewish support for inclusive public education ― but Deutsch has remained steadfast. Deutsch's goal is more than a single school; he is looking to start a movement.

The basic ingredient is the same in most of these additives: 50 weight engine oil with standard additives. The magic ingredient in Slick 50, Liquid Ring, Matrix, QM1 and T-Plus from K-Mart is Polytetrafluoroethylene. Don't try to pronounce it: call it PTFE. But don't call it Teflon, which is what it is, because that is a registered trademark. Dupont, who invented Teflon, claims that "Teflon is not useful as an ingredient in oil additives or oils used for internal combustion engines." But what do they know? They haven't seen the secret studies done by Petrolon (Slick 50).

Kevin Heston, wd~50's sous chef, went to culinary school at the Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago. During his time at school he ... worked at Crofton on Wells. On graduating from culinary school, Kevin worked at MK with chef Michael Kornick in Chicago for three years where he was the sous chef for just under two years. He began working at wd~50 in November of 2004 and before becoming the sous chef in November 2006, worked most of the stations in the kitchen.

In April of '00, 50 was shot 9 times, including a .9mm bullet to the face, in front of his grandmothers house in Queens. He spent the next few months in recovery while Columbia Records dropped him from the label. 50 didn't fold, he flew. Right into the zone. He banged out track after track, despite no income or backing, with his new business partner and friend Sha Money XL. The two recorded over 30 songs, strictly for mix-tapes, with the soul purpose of building a buzz.
