1960: 1960'S
built 234 days ago
The 1960 Presidential Election was one of the most exciting in history. Both Kennedy and Nixon were strong candidates and campaigned with vigor and enthusiasm. The final election results were close with less than .2% separating the two in the popular vote. A shift of just a few thousand votes in key states would have led to Nixon's election. This simulation is designed to help students recreate the events of 1960 and to relive this exciting moment in the past.

During the 1960's, Bisoni and Zia Catine (both pictured to the left) sold their duplex in Cicero and Bisnoni bought a 6-plex in Berwyn, IL. The stress of this big change put Bisnoni in the hospital. But she eventually recovered and became an excellent landlady to her tenants in Berwyn! And even though her children were older by this time, they came to live with her from time to time. In fact, two of her children (Norman and LeAnna) even came to live with her with their spouses and children in the Berwyn apartment. They did this to save money to buy homes of their own. And Bisnoni felt good about helping her family.

History of Fashion: 1960-1970 In fashion, the 1960's began with crew cuts on men and bouffant hairstyles on women. Men's casual shirts were often plaid and buttoned down the front, while knee-length dresses were required wear for women in most public places. By mid-decade though, miniskirts or hot pants, often worn with go-go boots, were revealing legsl bodywear was revealing curves, and women's hair was either very short or long and lanky. Men's hair became longer and wider along with beards and moustaches. Menswear too had a much needed renaissance; bright colors, double-breasted sports jackets, polyester pants suits with Nehru jackets, and turtlenecks were in vogue.
