1957 Chrysler 300C cars Recollections of the 1957 make for painful memories. In fact, the launch can be considered a 'disaster' even though all aspects of engine, transmission, and chassis were excellent and incurred no significant field problems. Indeed, production was ordered underway before the plant was ready. Engineering and manufacturing development jobs were not finished when startup orders were issued in the summer of 1956. [Webmaster note: The impact of these problems on other cars is detailed here by Curtis Redgap.]

In 1957 Ernestina was hauled and major repairs were undertaken. Twenty-eight carpenters labored nearly a month, ripping out and replacing rotten planking below the waterline under the supervision of Adriano Britu. Henrique Mendes complained that it cost him $7,000 but assured everyone, "she is in good shape now!"

1957_pic_1bx Elegant bathing suits, such as this white eyelet-embroidered nylon one by Jantzen, carried out the note of elegance seen in all fashions in 1957. The crushed belt stops at the front to give a lengthening panel effect. For active swimmers... the smooth-fitting maillot was still the most popular suit of the season. The three-piece ensemble shown above is an entire wardrobe, including an open-throated blouse, an easy skirt, and trim Bermuda shorts, in pink-and-white cotton, by Century. It was a perfect outfit for sportswoman, spectator, and window shopper.
1957 Corvette Fuel Injection Chevrolet pulled something amazing out of the hat for 1957: Fuel Injection. First run in 1956 at the Sebring race, the Rochester Ramjet injection was an answer to Mercedes-Benz which featured fuel injection in the 1954 300SL. The innovation solved a fuel starvation problem caused by sloshing under high cornering with carbureted engines under race conditions. The fuel injection system, displayed in a cutaway drawing to the left... enabled Chevrolet to boast of 1 hp per cubic inch of displacement with the 283 cu. in., 283 hp engine.
