The tragic events of the 1953 floods not only highlighted the destructive power of storm floods, but ... highlighted the problems associated with the existing flood warning system. Thankfully, lessons have been learnt from the disaster and improved flood warning systems are now in place. Today, the Environment Agency is the single body responsible for flood warning and flood defence in England and Wales. The Agency currently has an advanced warning system in place which aims to give homes a minimum of 2 hours notice before imminent flooding. In April 2000 the Agency established a National Flood Warning Centre in Surrey to provide a focus for improving forecasting, warning and communications to help people in flood risk areas.

Corvette - Corvette Shock Absorber, Gas, Rear, KYB, 1953-1962 KYB high-pressure gas shocks are excellent high performance replacements for 1953-62 Corvettes. In terms of performance, KYB's are "guaranteed" not to fade! In fact, regardless of how much or how hard the shock is worked the KYB shock still provides 100% shock absorbing efficiency - now and forever. The KYB mono-tube shock is backed by a limited lifetime warranty. KYB is an excellent selection for Corvette owners who demand life-long service out of a performance shock.

The flagships of the 1953 line were the Cranbrook convertible and Plymouth's second generation hardtop, the Cranbrook Belvedere. As with the Savoy, the Belvedere name replaced the Cranbrook script on the front fender. Two-toning was much simpler than that of the 1952 hardtop, but at least it extended beyond the rain gutter to cover the entire roof. But many felt that the hardtop's reverse-slant C-pillars, similar to those on the sedans, were not all that attractive. Yet the car did sell well.
