On April 10, 1951, Governor Youngdahl visited the Mankato flood area. He worked on getting money to be given to the flood areas as a disaster fund, which totaled $72,000. Foodstuffs kept at the Faribault and St. Peter State Hospitals, and in St. Paul were sent right away to the flood areas. After Governor Youngdahl left, the Minnesota State Senate unanimously passed a bill to add $550,000 to the state calamity fund so help can be extended to flood sufferers in the Mankato area. This money made it likely for flood victims to get help, either in cleanup or loans to rebuild their houses. The money was ... used for repairing the dike and more advances in keeping the river from not flooding again.
