Jewelry and elegant personal affects were another type of memorabilia sold at the 1926 Sesquicentennial Exhibition. The left two pieces are women's make-up compacts. Each contains a powder puff and mirror inside. The far right panel shows a fashionable souvenir cigarette holder depicting the Liberty Bell.

The exhibit pays particular homage to Chanel's consecration as the inventor in 1926 of the Little Black Dress, a synthesis of elegance and sobriety. "Until then, black was reserved as the color of mourning," says co-curator Cathérine Join-Diéterle. "In the hands of Chanel it became the symbol of chic."

Hurricane Fabian was the worst storm to hit Bermuda directly since 1926. It caused loss of life, widespread and significant property damage, and power outages across the Island. Norma Talmadge, an actress who usually performed in melodrama during the 1910's and 1920's, displays her gift for comedy in "Kiki" (1926), a gift usually seen more often in the performances of her kooky sister Connie Talmadge ("Intolerance", "The Primitive Lover"). But Norma was a pro and could carry comedy off just as well as her sister (for example see Norma ... in "The Social Secretary" (1916) for some witty moments).
