QE4a - The Special Handling Stamp of 1925 In 1925, the postal rate for special delivery on parcels weighing between 2 and 10 lbs. was raised from 10¢ to 15¢ and for parcels weighing over 10 lbs. from 15¢ to 20¢. In a rush to get the new fifteen cent stamp to Post Offices, it was decided to simply alter the denomination and color of the existing stamp, the 10¢ stamp of 1922. Since the twenty cent rate could be met using two of the existing ten cent stamps, it was felt there was enough time to create a new design for the twenty cent rate before its issue, hence the new design with mail truck.

"Leatherheads," set against the backdrop of America's nascent pro-football league in 1925, will shoot on locations in South Carolina and North Carolina. Joining Clooney and Zellweger in the film are John Krasinski as golden-boy Carter Rutherford; Jonathan Pryce as Rutherford's manager, CC; and Stephen Root as the likeable, if less than objective, sports reporter Suds.
On June 28, 1925, the residents of the city of Santa Barbara climbed into bed on an uncomfortably warm, humid, and still night. Used to a cooling breeze from the ocean, many people tossed and turned in their sleep. At 3:27 AM, the pressure gauge at the Santa Barbara Water Department recorded slight tremors from a small earthquake. At about the same time, the city manager, Herbert Nunn, awoke from his sleep to the strong odor of crude oil seeping onto the beach 85 feet below his bluff-top house.
[I]n 1925, the Polish?born businessman and the Army engineer decided to team up and provide competition for Irvin. The Switlik parachute incorporated the military's basic design: 12 panels of silk carefully stitched together to make a circular canopy. However, Smith patented a rip cord that opened much more quickly and, combined, it with a lighter, more comfortable package.
Scott J68 - One Half Cent Postage Due of 1925 On April 15, 1925, the third class mail rate was increased from 1¢ to 1½¢, creating a need for a fractional value postage due stamp. The ½¢ postage due stamp was created to meet this need. It was given the same design as other postage dues of the period, merely changing the denomination. Collecting the ½¢ postage due from the recipient was another matter, there was no half cent coin to purchase this stamp and pay the fee. Often the carrier would give the recipient a ½¢ Hale stamp in exchange for a penny... meeting the amount due.
