The big news during the 1924 baseball season was not what happened but what didn't happen. The New York Giants won again -- their fourth flag in four years -- but that was becoming routine. The Yankees... dropped to second place, 2 games behind the underdog Washington Senators, who had finished 231/2 games out only a year earlier.

In 1924, The Hudson Motor Co.'s previously mentioned sales of 133,950 Hudson-Essex cars showed a gain of about 50% over 1923. Hudson sales rose 28% while Essex sales skyrocketed 75% due to not only the new six cylinder engine (replacing the four) but ... to lower prices, a trend that started with the 3rd year of the Essex sales in 1921. Even with the larger engine, all 1924 Essex cars were priced at less than $1000, while all 1923 four-bangers were above $1000.

Note that the database indexes all available New York arrivals in the 1892-1924 time frame, not just those immigrants who were processed at Ellis Island. US citizens and many of the first and second class passengers did not have to take the ferry over to the island. However they were still recorded on the passenger lists and generally all arrivals in this time frame should be in the Ellis Island database.
