This CD includes articles pertaining to the fact that in 1918 Americans were asked to economize and conserve in order to support the war effort in every possible way. Many supplies were rationed, including those directly affecting clothing. These restrictions on materials inspired designers to narrow the silhouette which they did very successfully. Also, many articles strongly recommended that old clothes be “made over” so there would be little need to buy new fabric.
