Lenin's return in April of 1917 was greeted by the Russian populace, as well as by many leading political figures, with great rapture and applause. However, far from uniting the fractious parties, he immediately condemned the policies and ideologies of both the Provisional Government and the Petrograd Soviet. In his April Theses, published in the Bolshevik newspaper Pravda, he advocated non-co-operation with the liberals (ie. non-hardline Communists) and an immediate end to the war.

By 1917, Cambrai had become one of the most important railheads and HQ towns behind the German lines. In front of it lay the immensely powerful Siegfried Stellung - better known to the British as the Hindenburg Line. So strong was the defensive position here that German Divisions decimated during Third Ypres were sent here to recuperate and refit. It included two lines of fortifications, with barbed wire belts tens of yards wide, concrete emplacements and underground works. A third parallel line was ... under construction. The map inset above shows the German withdrawal from he Somme to the Hindenburg Line in spring 1917 and the main defensive position faced by the British at Cambrai.

Concerning the Metal scene on Argentina, "1917" (name which was taken from a sculpture) is one of the first bands involved on Death Metal with old school Thrash Metal influences. On the other hand, is definitely the most productive project on this genre and country. The band is considered a "veteran one" (since most Argentinian bands of these genres usually don't last long out of non-recognition and other problems), with a lot of releases and compilation appearances, yet keeping the underground spirit of independent artists.

On August 6 (19), 1917 Lenin left Razliv for Finland in make-up and wearing a wig, with documents in the name of the worker K. Ivanov, from the Sestroretsk arms factory. A photograph of Lenin, "Ivanov", is presented in this room.
