The National Hockey League, founded in 1917, is the second-oldest of the four major professional team sports leagues in North America. (Introduced August 1916) While basically a restyling of the 1915-16 models, the 1917 Model T Ford appeared to be an all-new car. The brass radiator was replaced with a higher one with a black shell. The hood was larger and mated smoothly with the cowl. Fenders, front and rear, were now crowned and curved to follow the wheel outline. The steering column gear box and control levers were nickel-plated, as were the radiator filler neck and the wheel hub caps.

Currently 1917 has two sides: on studio, it's an one-man project, in the hands of the guitar player/vocalist/songwriter Alejandro Nahuel Sabransky. But on live shows, the lineup is Alejandro on guitar/vocals, and Eric Loiacomo on drums, plus a guest bass player.

By mid 1917, a series of technological developments had made it possible to fire accurately without registering. The new technologies and associated methods included accurate survey of the gun position; mapping of enemy positions through aerial and ground observation; calculated reckoning of invisible enemy battery positions through triangulation on sources of sound and gun flash; advanced local meteorology and understanding of the effect of weather on the flight of the shell; improved reliability of munitions through improved quality control in manufacture; calibration of the wear condition of the gun barrel, and the training of battery officers and NCOs in the mathematical methods required to turn this complex set of factors into physical settings of the fuze, sights, elevation and position.

In 1917, the brand started using the slogan "It's Toasted" to inform consumers about the manufacturing method in which the tobacco is toasted rather than sun-dried. Because of this different manufacturing process, Lucky Strike cigarettes are said to have a unique and distinctive flavour. The message "L.S.M.F.T." ("Lucky Strike means fine tobacco") was introduced on the package in the same year. In 1935, ATC began to sponsor Your Hit Parade, featuring North Carolina tobacco auctioneer Speed Riggs. The weekly radio show's countdown catapulted the brand's success and would remain popular for 25 years.

Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini , 1850-1917, American nun, founder of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, b. near Lodi, Italy. Founded in Italy in 1880, her order was expressly for charitable and religious work among the very poor. She was sent by Pope Leo XIII to the United States (1889) to aid Italian immigrants arriving there. She lived mainly in New York City and Chicago, directing the establishment of hospitals, orphanages, nurseries, and schools in the United States and in Latin America. Her sanctity, highly regarded in her lifetime, became famous after her death. She was beatified by Pope Pius XI in 1938 and canonized in 1946 by Pius XII.
