Nicknamed because their lightweight design allowed the wearer to walk around silently, the first rubber-soled "sneakers" were created by Keds in 1916. As one of the early versions of athletic shoes on the market, the fuss-free footwear quickly became a favorite of preppy teens and sporty Hollywood stars alike. This season, the label's signature all-white shoes have become a key accessory in the geek-chic trend.

All of the exterior columns and capitals are originals from the 1916 building and the 1927 addition. The weight of a column including its plinth block is 30,600 pounds. The columns had to be installed with great precision as they actually support the weight of the portico roof above them.

- Minnie Elizabeth NICHOLS passed away on Nov. 23, 1916. She married Andrew NICHOLS, and lived south of Kinmundy. Interment in Alma Cemetery. She leaves a husband, 3 daughters, and 1 son.

Students entering in 1916 were enrolled in a four-year course. There were subsequently offered a series of short, special courses in specific s ubjects, such as Soil Fertility or Dairying. In 1920, the four-year regular course of study was shortened to a three-year course of study.
