Feb. 1, 1901 Hezekiah Burch has this week sold his 124 acre farm to J. W. Gardner of Longmont for $4,000.00. Mr. Gardner will take possession of his new home about March Ist. Mr. Burch will close out his personal property at auction in the near future, after which, he intends to move his family to the southern part of the state.

Installed: First installed at the fire department hose cart house on L Street in 1901. Shortly after it moved to the main firehouse on Second. In 1903 it was moved to the new Station 1 on First and McLeod, and survived the renovation of the Firehouse in 1937, when it was off for about a week. During it's first 75 years it was connected directly to the 110 Volt power line, and not to the back-up generator for fear of a power surge. In 1976 it was moved with a full police and fire truck escort, under the watch of Captain Kirby Slate, to its present site in 1976 at Fire Station 6, 4550 East Ave., Livermore, California. It was then hooked to a seperate power source at 120V according to Frank Maul, Retired City Electrician, with no interuptions since.
Pharmacia ... encompassed Monsanto, which was founded in St. Louis, Missouri in 1901, and produced artificial sweetener. Monsanto expanded into one of the largest chemical companies in the United States, making saccharin, aspirin, caffeine, and vanilla. Another pharmaceutical company, which was formed in 1888 by a young druggist named Gideon Daniel Searle, manufactured bulk laxative, the first motion sickness drug, the first oral contraceptive, and other innovative products. Searle was headquartered in Skokie, Illinois, and became the pharmaceutical unit of Monsanto in 1985. In 1999, Monsanto and Pharmacia & Upjohn agreed to create a new company, Pharmacia Corporation.
The University of Minnesota Medical School Anatomy Bequest Program is a whole body donation program that was established in 1901. The primary mission of the Anatomy Bequest program is to ensure the availability of human bodies to aid in anatomy, education, research, clinical practice and biomedical device design. The Anatomy Bequest Program supports statewide education to advance the understanding of human anatomy.
